farm and ecology summer day camps for children

at Turkey Hill and Morris Farms, Maine

Growing nature lovers through hands-in-the dirt fun!

Farm Camp teaches environmental literacy through guided exploration in a variety of habitats. Our campers grow, harvest, and eat organic vegetables, feed and care for farm animals, and learn through nature based-literature, and child-centered, fun activities.

We have two locations, each on small, organic farms in Maine. Turkey Hill Farm Camp, for children ages 4-10, is just minutes from Portland’s Casco Bay Bridge. Farm Camp, at Morris Farm in Wiscasset Maine, is for children 5-12.

Children work and play in small groups of twelve and are led by a teacher and an assistant. Our schedule focuses us daily on four topics, including: (1) the garden, (2) farm animals, (3) forest habitats, and (4) pond life.

Also, each day children do farm chores. Popular activities throughout the summer include:

  • hunting for frogs
  • building fairy houses
  • reading a chapter from Charlotte’s Web
  • collecting eggs
  • digging up potatoes
  • making zucchini muffins
  • playing in the bean pole teepee

Weekly themes center our curriculum. Favorites in 2009 were: “The Rotten Truth” (decomposition, soil and bugs), “Back-in-Time on the Farm,” “Habitats” (animals), and “The Harvest.”
